So I got an LDS (Last Drum Syndrome) from Taylor Swift’s newest song – Blank Space. I got stuck mind-drumming its beat. Out of curiosity, I came to check out the lyrics. And as I was reading it, I got amazed on how every line of the chorus seems to have a parallel Bible verse. And so, I got the lyrics and put Bible verses parallel to each line. This is what I got:
So it’s gonna be forever (John 3:16)
Or it’s gonna go down in flames (Acts 2)
You can tell me when it’s over (John 19:30)
If the high was worth the pain (Isaiah 53:5)
Got a long list of ex-lovers (Jeremiah 11:12)
They’ll tell you I’m insane (Mark 3:21)
Cause you know I love the players (Matthew 9:10)
And you love the game (Romans 3:23)
Cause we’re young and we’re reckless (Isaiah 40:30)
We’ll take this way too far (Psalm 37:7)
It’ll leave you breathless (Matthew 11:28)
Or with a nasty scar (Galatians 6:17)
Got a long list of ex-lovers (Galatians 4:8)
They’ll tell you I’m insane (John 10:20)
But I got a blank space baby (Revelation 3:5)
And I’ll write your name (Luke 10:20)
John 3:16 Whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life.
Acts 2 The Holy Spirit came down like a fire.
John 19:30 “It is finished!” – Jesus’ last words on the cross.
Isaiah 53:5 He was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on Him. And by his wounds, we are healed.
Jeremiah 11:12 They will go and cry to the gods to whom they make offerings, but they cannot save them in the time of their trouble.
Mark 3:21 When His family heard what Jesus is saying, they tried to take Him away and said “He’s out of His mind!
Matthew 9:10 Jesus ate with the sinners.
Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fall short for the glory of God.
Isaiah 40:30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall.
Psalm 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him.
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who are weary and heavy–burdened, and I will give you rest.
Galatians 6:17 From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scarsthat show I belong to Jesus.
Galatians 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.
John 10:20 They accused Jesus and said, “He’s insane!”
Revelation 3:5 I will never blot out the name of that person from the Book of Life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father.
Luke 10:20 Rejoice! Your name is written in Heaven!”
T. Swift’s songs are known for its bitter messages dealing with worldly romance. But when I started Christianizing her lyrics, I got an awesome message of Jesus, saving us even though we’re reckless. Jesus promised us His forever – an eternal life. He sent us His promise – the Holy Spirit. Even though we’re reckless and messed up, He still chose the scars because for Him, we are worth the pain. We have failed Him for a lot of times. But He’s saying, “It’s okay! It’s over! The pain is over! It won’t take too far. I won’t leave you breathless.” He loved as so much that He was accused to be insane, even by His very own family. We can’t saved ourselves. We’re messed up. We can’t make it to God, so God made it to us. God became Man in Jesus Christ to pay the penalty of our sins. Just when you’re about to give up and say, “God, I can’t take this anymore! Do you still love me?” He looks right in your eyes and says, “Of course, I love you. I love you with an everlasting love!” He stretched-out His arms and said “I love you this much!” then He nailed it to the cross! And at that moment, blood started to shed. Red! It was red – like one of T Swift’s album – Loving Him was RED! And so, He went down. He held your hands, starred at your eyes and said “I got a blank space, baby and I’ll write your name!”
